3 Signs Your Therapy Might Not Be Addressing Your Unresolved Trauma

Have you been attending therapy sessions, but still feel like something isn't quite right? It's possible that you're dealing with unresolved trauma. Here are three signs to watch out for:

  1. Chronic Tension in Your Body: If you find yourself experiencing chronic tension in specific areas such as the jaw, hips, neck, chest, or back, it could be a sign that unresolved trauma is manifesting physically. Trauma has a way of getting stored in our bodies when emotions aren't processed fully. Somatic exercises like shaking your whole body or practicing "Vagus nerve" exercises can help release this stored trauma. These exercises are easy to find on platforms like YouTube and take just a few minutes.

  2. Rocky Relationships or Trouble with Romance: Individuals with unresolved trauma often struggle with anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachment styles, which can lead to difficulties in relationships. Therapy can be incredibly beneficial in understanding and improving these attachment styles. Learning your own attachment style can help you recognize negative patterns in relationships and work towards healthier connections.

  3. Frequent or Recurrent Nightmares: Unresolved trauma can manifest in the form of frequent or recurrent nightmares, particularly those associated with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). If you're curious about your ACEs score, there are online quizzes available to help you determine it.

If any of these signs resonate with you, it may be time to reassess your therapy approach and consider exploring trauma-focused techniques. Remember, healing from trauma is a journey, and there are resources and support available to help you along the way.
